C02 was a face-off between (with tournament rankings) Drummer 42 (Red), Captain Picard 37 (Green), Small Player 91 (Blue), and Dionysos, 46 (Black) Drummer appears for Red. He wonders when will the tormentuous existence end (it seems he can't really die) He buys elephants. Captain Data emerges from a wormhole out of Round B space. Sir Derek arrives for Blue, and for Black: > Bacchus emerges from a Cask-of-Wine (04) ... and immediately frees one, > euh no, two, euh no, one, or perhaps two - stop moving please when you > stand still in front of my poor eyes! - well, a certain number of Demons; > all but one he dismisses as fantasies imposed to him by his > slightly-ethylic-but-not-more-than-usual state... Drummer does not take a second hero, but the rest do, and Black builds griffins. The next turn, Drummer says to Bacchus: > I almost renamed 33 to Port 33, but upon reflection, thought that might > just be too tempting for you ;-) Green gives some advice to Small Player suggesting that he not allow Red to steal his gold, but Small Player is playing a defensive game and never searches his ruins. Bacchus says: > Peace and Love to all, no? What about a powerful four-way alliance? Would > be cooool, no? [or is it kewl in U.S. spelling?] What? No enemy? And who > are you to care about that? - More seriously, let it be known that we have > plenty of wine and beer for your embassies and messengers, if they come in > peace, or at least for a serious negociation... At this point Blue has only 6 cities compared to 9, 10, and 11 (for Red, Green, Black) On turn 4, Green has the following roleplay: > "Captain, we are receiving a signal from a planet we have yet to explore." > "Can you identify it?" > "No, Sir, we are attempting to decipher it." > "Explain. Didn't the Universal Translator translate the message. Isn't it > working?" > "It is, Sir, but all we get is gibberish. The sound of bubbling and > gurgling." > "Natural phenomenon?" > "I don't think so, we'll have to check." > "Number 1, assemble an away team and report." > > Later... > > "Captain, we have found the source of the signal. It is the remains of an > alien civilization, millenia old." > "So it was an automatic signal." > "No, it has to be activated. Its a simple system, but a button needs to be > pressed. We have detected life forms around, in fact I see one right now." > "Intelligent?" > "Unknown. We have attempted to initiate contact, and there is evidence that > these beings initiated the communication attempt, but all we hear is more > of that gurgling and bubbling. They seem to be liquid of some sort, of the > consistency of... for lack of a better word, an alcoholic fruit juice." > "You mean wine?" > "Yes, sir." > "I haven't tasted wine since I last visited my father's vineyard back home." > "You're not thinking of imbibing these beings..." > "Ofcourse not, not even if they aren't sentient." > "We haven't been able to determine if they are. They seem to be imitative, > which would explain how they know how to initiate contact even if they > don't know what it means. They also seem to be behaving strangely." > "In what way?" > "Well, sir, they don't move straight, they seem ready to do something then > they do something else, they begin making those noises and then stop. Some > simply make loud noises in a corner of the alien control room. Its almost > as if they are... drunk." > "Number 1, you can't make judgements like that. These behaviors may be > considered normal by their standards, they may always act like so." > "Maybe so, sir, but if we are to look at this planet as a possible colony, > I'd say that if we set aside some space, say a nice sanctuary for these > liquid beings, the planet would make a fine Federation colony." > "Indeed, continue to collect data on these aliens. I concur that they don't > seem self-aware and intelligent enough to lay claim to the entire planet so > lets establish natural preserve so they can exist in their natural > habitats, and set up a Federation colony. We must continue onwards". > "Yes sir, we will begin preparations now." > "I will initiate first contact with another alien race, this one we know is > sentient." Green then takes over two black cities and builds griffins. As a result of the contact with Red, Red and Green negotiate a non-aggression pact until turn 10. Blue is up to 8 cities, but hasn't built anything in a while because he never searched a gold ruin and so is out of money. Baccus continues: > BTW, may I ask to Drummer why he painted all > his elephants in red, and why are dancing on top of my table while I try to > concentrate? Then, on turn 5, Red kills the Blue demon, and by turn 6 is already up to 17 cities! Blue is eliminated on turn 8. Around this time, it becomes clear that Black is going to die soon. He asks for help from Red, though Drummer says that he will not break his alliance. Both Red and Green indicate that they are going to be warring as soon as their agreement ends, and friction begins. On turn 10, Red sends in the forces, though actual battles don't begin. Data writes in the captain's log: > The anomalous readings from my positronic net are increasing. My functions > continue to improve, but I "feel" different, almost as if something inside > me is changin. I am starting to use phrases and words I never have before > (conjunctions for example). Indeed, I am also thinking thoughts I didn't > before... I will report more on my condition as I find out more. On the next turn we find out that Data's evil brother Lor is taking over Data's body (I thought Data was just getting drunk!) Lor offers peace to Dionysos (not accepted), but mostly just looks forward to the attack by Red. On turn 13, Red slams 23 units into Green's hero-city, not taking it, and killing only 10 Green units, but weakening the city tremendously. Green abandons the Black lands and says he hopes Black won't molest his retreating units. At this point in the game, Drummer has 28 cities, The Federation has 15, and Dionysos has 5. Drummer sends a message to Dionysos suggesting that Dionysos soften up the city with Green's hero in it, so Red can take it next turn. But Dionysos has his own plans. In a spectacular bit of roleplay, the Black hero Silenus kills Lor himself! This should be considered for the "best hero slaying" bit, but it's too long to put here.. Drummer is mad that Dionysos took the items, though, and also by his words that he claims suggested a lack of trust. In a pivotal decision, he battles his ally, saying that Black should now head north, away from the Red forces. So, on turn 14, Black offers Green a ceasefire. Red is up to 30 cities, but then Green has a major victory that changes things a bit. On turn 16 hero Geordi arrives for less than 400 gp. On turn 19, Black is flying his hero through red territory, but it isn't much of a threat since the red cities are quite capable of destroying the hero if he hangs around long. Black has this to say: Silenus needed some new material for fishing, so he stopped at The Bank (formerly Red city 39) to get some money: On turn 20, Black takes four cities to go from 5 to 9, and the game ends with a victory for Red, but with only 26 cities from his former 30. One has to wonder what would have happened had the alliance structure not been so changing.
