********************************************************************** * Round C Prizes and Awards, Part 3: * * * * THE SCROLL OF HONORS - ROUND C * * * * "A compilation of interesting honors and statistics * * derived from the Round C game histories and final gamefiles." * ********************************************************************** This section was mostly compiled by Matthew Wellens (Gor Bonecracker) with a little editing and some minor additions by Headquarters... A. Battlefield Exploits (Whole Army): 1. "Blitzkrieg Award" For the fastest takeover of the entire map, the Blitzkrieg Award goes to Sir Uriah, who as Red in C10 conquered the entire world on Turn 16. Only the Duke of Death (as Black in C03) and Evgeny (as Red in C13) managed a 100% victory as well. (Round A: Falcon, A25, Turn 14.) (Round B: The Untouchables, Turn 19.) 2. "Total Carnage Award" For most total casualties in the Triumphs report at game's end, including one's own armies. Individual Winners: - 1st 418 dead - Rhonda-B C04 Green - 2nd 412 dead - Beyarn C04 Black - 3rd 392 dead - Evgeny C13 Red (Round B: RoadRunner, White, B19, with 402) (Round A winner was Fortissimo in A14 with 416.) Group Winners: - 1st 560 dead in C04 (Rorqual, Rhonda-B, Iceman, Beyarn) - 2nd 505 dead in C18 (Maddog, Lord Dread, Wowbagger, Dragon Lord Gary V) - 3rd 445 dead in C05 (MadMax, Rhonda, Gor Bonecracker, Apache) (Round B winners were B13 with 468, and B19 had 460! (Round A winner was A14 with 427+) 3. "Decimation Award" - For killing the most enemy units 1st - 227 kills - Evgeny C13 Red 2nd - 226 kills - Beyarn C04 Black 3rd - 212 kills - Rhonda-B C04 Green (Round B: Legion of Doom, White in B13, with 260) (Round A: Fortissimo, 247.) 4. "Efficiency Award" - best kill ratio (kills divided by losses) Efficiencies tended to go down this round as many players had few units supplying large stack bonuses. - 1st with 2.63 is Little Puppy (C07 Blue) - 2nd with 2.01 is Sir Uriah (C10 Red) - 3rd with 1.77 is The Masked Avenger (C08 Black) (Round B: Lovesword, Blue in B17, with 3.61) (Round A: Sir Ripper, A27, 2.83.) 5. "The Admiral" - Most individual navy kills 1st - 62 navies - Steve the Giant (Red, C15) - Steve killed 62 navies while losing only 24. 2nd - 54 navies - Gem (Green, C06), - Gem also lost 66 navies, for a total of 120 naval casualties! 6. "Maginot Line" - Strongest Defensive Garrison, this time not including the city's fortification bonus. (Note - maximum possible strength of a garrison is 32 x 14 = 448.) 1st: 287 points - Little Puppy (Black, C07) 2nd: 276 points - Lovesword (Black, C16) 3rd: 268 points - Overlord (Green, C11) (Round B: Lord Elric of B01, who reached 362, incl. city defense.) (Round A: Turin Turambar in A29 had 348.) 7. Best Buddies, or, "We're Lovers not Fighters" Unfortunately we have two games with very worthy nominees who broke the 2nd Commandment (Peace is not an option!) calling into question their very status as "Warlords" by agreeing to peace once the games were down to two players. Worst of all this "sin" was committed by 4 members of the top 16 ranked warlords including the #1 ranked warlord!!!!! The good news for us - and the bad news for them - is that there won't be any "chickening out" in the Round E head-to-head games! In C11 #14 Commando (Red) and #1 Lord Isc (Green) split the world a perfect 50/50 with 24 cities each. In C17 #4 Falcon and #6 Legion of Doom held a "tea party" and did absolutely no fighting at all from Turn 13 on after the other two players were eliminated. Their game had 210 total casualties, the fewest total casualties of any game in Round C. For shame. [ Editorial aside - Beyaryn's systematic betrayals of Iceman, Rhonda-B and Rorqual in C04 (which he claims were driven more by the storyline than by a desire to win big) might serve as an excellent example of how *not* to be Best Buddies - and keep a game interesting! ] B. Battlefield Exploits (Heroes): 1. "Jack The Ripper" - for killing the most enemy heroes Winner: Evgeny, Red in C13, with 4 of 6 enemy heroes killed! (5 other players had 3 kills each.) (Round B: The Untouchables of B05 killed 7 of 9, but 5 of the 7 were in Static Defense at the time they died.) (Round A: King Chu (A02) and Fortissimo (A14) had 5 each, which is impressive in a round with only 6 enemy heroes.) 2. "Double-Play Awards" - killing 2 heroes in one turn Little Puppy as Black in C07 had the only Double Play of Round C. On Turn 5 Little Puppy's "hero" Orchid Blossom kills two of King Warren's Red heroes in the same city. There were no triple plays this time... 3. "Conan the Barbarian" - most hero experience The following heroes accumulated the most glory and experience during Round C. Let their mighty names be remembered forevermore! 1st - 55 - Orchid Blossom, Little Puppy Black C07 Four additional heroes had 45+ experience: 48 - Eric the Red, Sir Uriah (Red, C10) 47 - Sir Lucka Lot, Lord Lucky (Black, C12) 46 - Pink, Lovesword (Black, C16) 45 - Duke of Death, Duke of Death (Black, C03) (Round B: Legion of Doom's hero Oden (B13, White) had 46.) (Round A: Steve the Giant's heroine Fat Fanny Fig had 47.) 4. United Nations and Pack Rat Awards - most standards and magic items Five heroes had all 4 standards and all 4 magic items: Duke of Death (Duke of Death, Black, C03) Eric the Red (Sir Uriah, Red, C10) Sir Lucka Lot (Lord Lucky, Black, C12, who only had 18 cities!) Lady Aewin, (Evgeny, Red, C13) Sir Phoenix (Sir Phoenix, Black, C14, who only had 17 cities!) 5. Turtle Defense - longest defense of a single city Medzner, Red in C12, held out for 9 Turns from turn 11 to 20! C. End of Game Statistics and Situations: 1. "Balance of Power" - most balanced game outcomes. 5 Round C games had all 4 players survive, compared to 3 games for Round B and only 1 game for Round A. The clear winner for Round C was C08, where ShirKhan had 15 cities, KlownKiller-B had 10, Kamevil had 12, and The Masked Avenger had 11! 2. "North Korea" - highest ratio of army strength to city count This honor goes to the 106 to 1 ratio piled up by Arlis as Black in C07, who finished with only one city but thereby kept Little Puppy from getting a total victory! (Round B: Duncan Macleod, B04, 175 to 1) (Round A: Celeborn of A10, with 122 to 1.) 5. "Le Grande Armee" The strongest army after Round C was Wat Tyler's black force in C15, which mustered out with 1521 strength points! (Round B: Piglet in B04 had 930.) (Round A: Hunzo's total was 1592!) 6. "Churchill Award" - "Never have so many owed so much to so few." Gor Bonecracker as Blue in C05 finished with 10 cities but only 66 army strength points, and thus a feeble but effective 6.6 to 1 ratio. (Round B: Trebor Melas held 6 cities with 54 points, for a 9-to-1 ratio.) 7. "Midas Touch" The golden boy this round was Lord Dread in C18, with a final war chest of 5084! (Round B: Legion of Doom in B13 finished with 7740 gold!) (Round A: Lord Lucky of A35 collected 6719.) 8. "Bill Gates III" Individual Winner: +692 gold. Beyarn as Black in C04. (Round B: +244, Legion of Doom of B13) (Round A: Pooh achieved a +1038 after disbanding all his armies.) Bill Gate's III's accountants are definitely the players of C05: MadMax, Rhonda-B, Gor Bonecracker, and Apache. Only 9 of 78 Tournament games had all four players finish, and this was the only one where all 4 players were still making a profit at the end! 9. "Going for Broke" Winner, with -684 gold: Falcon as a best-buddy Red in C17. (Round B: Wat Tyler, -681) (Round A, Sir Ripper of A27, -799!) D. Game Speed and File Sizes: 1. "Speed Demons" The fastest turnaround was achieved in C10, which finished on November 11, 1998, after just 3 months and 5 days! (Round B: B18 finished after just 2 months and 1 day!) (Round A: A27 finished after 3 months and 24 days.) 2. "Slowpokes" This dubious distinction goes to C16, the slowest game of the Tournament, which finished on May 3, 1999, after 8 months and 28 days. (Round B: B20 finished after 7 months and 19 days.) (Round A: A08 finished after 6 months and 21 days.) 3. "James Michener / Isaac Asimov Award" - long-winded and/or prolific C04 was the far-and-away winner of this award, with a 640 K diplomatic history, driven largely by Beyaryn's insistence on controlling the "truth" of his story, and everyone else's hilarious insistence on pointing out the inconsistencies in his biased account of his tale! The runner-up was C01 at 492K. (B08 ran 769K, and A17 was 511K) These guys also took the record for the longest Query log, and the joint moderators Dave Hauri and Jim Panagos deserve great praise for steering this game through some rocky moments - and for putting up with the incessant chattering of the players! :) 4. "O Henry Award" The best "short story" game in Round C, and indeed in the entire Tournament, was C10. At 152K this history remains shorter than even the *compressed* C04 history. (In Round B, B22 was 200K, and in Round A the smallest was A25 at 164K.)
