********************************************************************** * Round B Prizes and Awards, Part 6: * * * * TOMB OF THE FALLEN WARLORDS - ROUND B * * * * "Honoring those who are no longer with us, yet fought well, * * and noting those who dropped out and became Lost Players." * ********************************************************************** A. TOP 5 PLAYERS WHO COULD NOT CONTINUE INTO ROUND C: 1. Bottom Burp - Tim Lethbridge, ranked 87th through Round B. Although Bottom Burp was strategically hapless and rarely won a battle, his role-playing was fantastic, earning nominations for Best Picture and Best Actor in Round A and Round B, helping his game B12 become co-winner of Best Picture for Round B, earning him second-place status for Best Actor two rounds in a row and overall ranking him high in the Role-players' Hall of Fame! But it remains unclear whether his opponents loved playing against him more for his eternal cheerfulness and gruesome sense of humor, or because he was not a formidable strategic threat. Unfortunately he was expecting to lose his 'net connection for several months and therefore withdrew before Round C. But we hope to read about his antics again in the WW2L, as he climbs the learning curve and torments his enemies there! 2. Duncan MacLeod - Rich Rose, ranked 29th through Round B. A solid tactical and strategic player who ranked 7th in his color in Round A, Duncan stood upon the crossroads of victory in B04, but lost badly after his alliance with Piglet collapsed. Despite the Decline and Fall of the Macleod empire, Duncan never lost his Tournament Spirit, and although he finished only 13th in his color in Round B, he kept up his roleplaying and helped earn B04 a Best Picture nomination. This was a well-deserved honor, for Duncan was widely hailed as a fun role-player who livened up his games. Alas, however, his Round B tribulations overwhelmed his Scottish clan, and he didn't have the time to continue into Round C. We hope that he recovers soon and finds the less time-consuming games of the WW2L to be more in his style! 3. Optimus Prime / The Upper Class - Ryan Webb, ranked 86th through Round B. With a truly inspired and completely hilarious roleplay in B02, The Upper Class earned a share of the official Best Picture prizes. So it was with great sadness that we read his Round C Signup reply: "Unfortunately I won't be able to play Round C. I'll be starting university this september and so I won't have the time to be worrying about enemy heroes and elementals come the fall :)" However, we hope Ryan has now made the transition to collegiate life successfully, and we would love to see a WW2L matchup between this master storyteller and Bottom Burp, since the two seem to share a common playing style and a fantastic sense of humor! 4. Nomad - Quetzalcoatl Bradley, ranked 31st through Round B. One of our esteemed moderators, Nomad ranked 4th in his color in Round A, but became busy and found Round B a bit overwhelming, slipping to 18th in his color. Although we're sorry not to see him around in Round C, we are grateful for all his assistance during the previous rounds, and we do hope to tempt this skilled and clever Warlord into rejoining us in the WW2L! 5. Lord Vetinari - Stefan Lindstrom, ranked 74th through Round B. Despite suffering at the hands of Gandalf the White and Hegemon during the "nasty, brutish, and short" A11, Lord Vetinari sustained his Tournament Spirit into Round B. Unfortunately B09 also proved to be a learning experience, as the mighty Little Puppy dominated the game. But Vetinari's indefatiguable efforts helped B09 earn a Best Picture nomination and made it a co-winner of that prize! Unfortunately he found himself short on time and facing a big international move to start a new job, and was unable to join us for Round C. But we hope things have settled down, and perhaps he'll find time for some good games with similarly-ranked opponents in the WW2L now! B.
