A. Battlefield Exploits (Whole Army):
1. "Blitzkrieg Award"
For the fastest takeover of the entire map, the Blitzkrieg Award goes to
Falcon of A25, who took over the world in just 14 turns as Orange!
2. "Total Carnage Award"
For most total casualties in the Triumphs report at the end of the game.
Individual Winner: Fortissimo (A14, Side 3) with 416 kills!
Runner-Up: Commando (A20, Side 4) with 276 kills!
Group Winner: The warlords of A14, with over 427 kills!
(We stopped counting!)
3. "Decimation Award"
For killing the most enemy units, Fortissimo of A14 wins again, with 247!
Runners-up: Knight Isc (A21, Side 1, 194) and Guntar (A36, Side 3, 190)
4. "Efficiency Award"
For the best kill ratio (number of units killed divided by units lost)
in the triumphs report. Sir Ripper (A27, Side 1) wins with 2.83 kills
per unit lost in battle!
5. "War Is Hell Awards"
Part 1: For the most casualties in a single battle, both sides.
(A battle is defined as a series of attacks on a single target.)
Winners: A31, Turn 18 - in a series of coordinated attacks by
two players upon the Blue city of Dublin,
63 units were slain!
A04, Turn 17 - Piglet sends 34 attackers to die in 5 attacks
on 12 White Static Defense units, for 46 losses.
A02, Turn 17 - King Cho sends 32 attackers to die against 14
defenders, for a total of 46 losses.
A35, Turn 18 - Lord Lucky sent 32 attackers to their graves,
and also took out 14 defenders, for a total of 46.
Part 2: For the most casualties (on both sides) in a single player's move.
Winner: Guntar (A36, Side 3), with 107 deaths in his move on Turn 20.
6. "Maginot Line"
Somehow Turin Turambar in A29 managed to fortify a city with 28 blessed
spiders, an archer, and a hero (+2) for a net bonus of +5 and a total
defensive strength (with bonuses) of 348! The runner-up is Lord Elric
of A08, with "only" 307. (Note - the maximum possible strength of a
city, with 31 blessed griffins and a strength-9 hero with +3 bonus,
is 448.)
7. "Mongol Hordes"
Congratulations to Lord Lucky, who used 8 attacks to take a
single city in A35 on Turn 18! This master of the WarBOT
made a total of 12 attacks that turn, too! Meanwhile,
Turin Turambar in A29 had a truly dominating Turn 19,
capturing 8 cities in a single move! Hunzo in A15 did likewise
on Turn 13, taking 8 cities as well...
B. Battlefield Exploits (Heroes):
1. "Jack The Ripper"
For killing the most enemy heroes, King Chu of A02 and Fortissimo of A14
are hereby honored with the "Jack the Ripper" award.
Both killed off 5 enemy heroes!
2. "Double-Play Awards"
For killing off two enemy heroes in a single move,
the first Double-Play award goes to Little Puppy, Slayer of Dragons (A10)!
(And a Tournament Spirit award goes to Celeborn, who was the victim
of the slaughter, yet stayed in the game.)
A second Double-Play award goes to King Chu of A02, who killed 2 heroes
on Turn 17, against a Static Defense who deserves no honors.
A third Double-Play award goes to Guntar of A36, who killed 2 heroes
on Turn 20.
A fourth Double-Play award goes to Geez of A07, killing Firebird's
2 heroes on Turn 11 - and for making both kills with the same hero!
Firebird receives the Tournament Spirit award for
sticking out the game (and surviving to the end!) after this disaster.
But the best "Double Double-Play" award goes to
Pooh, OfUnknownOrigin, and Bottom Burp in A16, where
OfUnknownOrigin killed both of Bottom Burp's heroes on Turn 7,
and then lost both of his own heroes to Pooh on Turn 17!
Both OfUnknownOrigin and Bottom Burp receive Tournament Spirit
awards for finishing the game and continuing into Round B.
However, that is not all, for there was something better
than a double play...
3. "A Triple-Play!"
Perhaps it should come as no surprise that the winner of the
Blitzkrieg Award did some amazing deeds along the way:
Falcon in A25 killed 3 heroes, himself, on Turn 8. A triple play!
4. "Pack-Rat"
This honor goes to Hegemon's hero Curly in A11, who
accumulated the most items of any hero - 10 - during the game.
5. "United Nations"
In A11, Hegemon's hero Curly also wound up with all the flags of the world,
collecting all 4 standards during his campaigns!
6. "Conan the Barbarian"
Steve the Giant's heroine Fat Fanny Fig in A23 wins this for
accumulating the most glory and experience during the
game: 47 points on Turn 20!
C. End of Game Statistics and Situations:
1. "Balance of Power"
Out of 36 games in Round A, only in one game did all four players
survive to the end. As a result, the "Balance of Power" award
goes to the Game A22! Congratulations to Wargs, Sir Phoenix,
Montressor, and Evgeny!
2. "Pyromaniacs and Arsonists"
While walking away with the Best Picture award, Little Puppy,
Celeborn, Bosquito and Gor Bonecracker also managed to scorch
the most earth in Round A, razing 19 out of their 44 cities in A10!
3. "Historical Preservation Society"
Falcon in A25 and Maga in A24 share in this honor, for both managed
to take over all 44 cities without having a single one razed!
4. "Turtle Defense"
For holding out the longest with his forces "Turtled" into just
a single city, in a defense reminiscent of Bataan and other
famous last stands, Gor Bonecracker of A10 is hereby honored again!
5. "North Korea"
Celeborn of A10 receives the honor of finishing the game with
the highest ratio of army strength to city count of any
warlord in Round A. His single remaining city was defended
by an army with a base strength of 122, for a ratio of 122 to 1!
(Lord Elric of A08 came in an extremely close second, with 2 cities
and an army strength of 242, for a ratio of 121 to 1!)
6. "Le Grande Armee"
The strongest army at the end of Round A was Hunzo's, with a total
unmodified base strength of 1592 points.
7. "Midas Touch"
It seems that everything this man touches turns to gold,
for Lord Lucky finished A35 with 6719 coins in his war chest!
8. "Bill Gates III"
For finishing the game with the highest total profits, Pooh of A16
wins the "Bill Gates III" award. However, perhaps it should be the
"Downsizing" award, for Pooh achieved his net profit of +1038
only by disbanding nearly his entire army just after his last move,
so that he wouldn't have to count his army stats!
9. "Going for Broke"
Sir Ripper of A27 finished the game with a deficit of -799!
D. Game Speed and File Sizes:
1. "Fastest Turnaround"
A27, finished January 30, after 3 months and 24 days.
2. "Slowest Turnaround"
A08, finished April 27, after 6 months and 21 days.
3. "James Michener / Isaac Asimov Award"
The most verbose and prolific Warlords of Round A were in A17,
with a history file that is 511K in size! Every turn report brought
forth reams of new stories. Quoth one overwhelmed reader of this game:
"Even James himself, may he rest in peace, would have been proud
of this baby. It is so big that it needed two ink cartridges
to print. It is so big I had to hire someone to carry the
resulting printout. It is so big, I once dropped it
in my bathtub and there was no more room left for the water.
So big, I tell you, that... Ahh, forget it!"
But for all it's length, it's a great read!
4. "O Henry Award"
The best "short story" game history was A25, which was only 164K.
5. "Moderator's Dream / Where's the Moderator?"
The shortest Query Log was in A34, at only 45,876 bytes.
6. "Moderator's Nightmare"
The longest Query Log was in A29, which came to 280,488 bytes,
and was actually longer than the gamefile! Moderators Max Fulton
and Jeff Hartman are hereby honored for their dedication and
perseverance!
