__________ __________/ \__________ <__________ Turn 1 __________> \__________/ _______________________________________________________________________________ The following message was sent on Monday October 06, 1997 at 07:03 AM EDT by Tournament Headquarters to all players; Hi all - This message contains some important notes about the special rules for Round A. Read it carefully! -- Bob Round A Rules Reminders! Last Updated 30-September-97 by Bob Heeter Read this message carefully - it contains a lot of essential information! *** Critical Scenario and Rules Changes from the Practice Round *** * Starting Gold: 4200/side * Razing: On Capture only * Round A games will last for 20 turns! * New Gold Rules: The gold limit for Strongholds is now 2500. All the gold is now in strongholds; revert until you get less than 2500. We recommend reverting to get between 2400 and 2500. (The odds of getting between 2400 and 2500 are about 10%, so this takes less reverting than trying to get near 3600!) * Special Builds: The center cities all build griffins! Sack 'em for cash - or build 'em! Note - griffins defending neutral cities are strength 8 (6+2). The neutral cities are set to "active" in the tournament. * New Rule: Two Heroes! You are allowed (and expected!) to revert and get a second hero on Turn 2. *** If you want a second hero, it MUST come ONLY on Turn 2. *** The second hero can come with *any* ally you choose in *any* city you control. You may not replace any dead heroes until *both* heroes are dead. Then the regular hero-replacement rules apply. (Note that once you lose a hero you cannot have more than one hero on the map.) Ask your Moderator or Headquarters for details. The starting gold has been increased to allow the purchase of the second hero. You must report the cost of the second hero and he/she must cost at least 1000 gold. * New Rule: Limited Allies with Replacement Heroes: After Turn 2, all replacement heroes may only come with wizards, ghosts, elementals, or worms. Archons, Demons, Dragons, and Devils are not allowed with replacement heroes - you can only get them from ruins or with your Turn 2 second hero. Warlord, use thy allies wisely! :) * Holidays: The U.S. Thanksgiving Weekend in late November and the midwinter holidays (from December 20 to January 7) will be official "Tournament Holidays". Time limits will not be enforced during those periods, and players do not need to worry about using up vacation time then, although we hope the games will all continue! We expect some games to finish before Christmas, and the rest in January and February. Round B will begin in mid-January after the winter holidays end! More timeouts will be supplied to all Round A players when Round B begins. *** Prizes for Round A *** The four Warlords who write the most entertaining game history will each receive a prize from SSG. The one Warlord who writes the best individual roleplay will also receive a prize from SSG. The awarding of both prizes will be determined after the round ends by a team of moderators (who will exclude themselves from recieving prizes). _______________________________________________________________________________ The following message was sent on Wednesday October 08, 1997 at 12:27 AM EDT by Arturo Espinosa Aldama to all players; Round A, Game 15, 1st turn, Player 1. The mighty hero Lord Daktarin had destroyed all that stood before him in bringing the continent under the domain of his king, Mikey-182 - but now, all that stands for naught. The weak are banding together and soon will pit their collective might against the dwindling empire. The Lords of each province were growing fat from collected taxes and as such, were slain mercilessly in the ensuing riots. They were Lords by name only. They had lost their time honoured code - they had become weak yet greedy, a dangerous mix. At this point, the Blinkian Empire (of mikey-182) has all but withdrawn to their capital, a safe haven called the Locker Room. Then a new hero emerged.... Musashi-Inu. Hunzo the great and valiant leader of the spectators looks at the war map presented to him by his war council and rages from the actions of his foes all over the land! looking to the far side of the world where the organizers dwell he recongnizes that their camp is surely doomed in the near future!. with slow and awkward movement by its two heroes Hunzo realizes that its only a matter of time untill the white camp falls in despair to his two approaching hungry neighbors getting them all the much stronger and harder to fight!. But then!, he sees something else in the far horizon of the borders between them and the most dangerous athletes. he sees a rookie! that JUST made the olympic team for the athelets and is only too anxious to get in the action and hungry for fast loot!. Then the thoughtful Hunzo understands that there remains some hope for the presently fragile organizers. So he rushes to his messenger and sends a letter of friendship and diplomatic alliance to help them deal with the incomming (dead!) rookie: A letter TO the fair organizers.. Hunzo the honorable and powerful spectator of this starting olympic event, extends a hand of friendship to your fearsome leader the PupiDeath and brings to you news of victories and RICHES that lie ahead in your NEXT fight and chance to get right back in this proud war for the olympic cause!. Hunzo the valiant warlord of the far hills would be most gratified with your acceptance of his alliance and would be honored to be working along side with you for your justified cause to control athletes whom are abusing certain drugs to get ahead of the competetion!. Hunzo the most honrable will be pleased to inform you that his army movement will be delayed until he recieves a response to this message he sends to your leader PupiDeath, and until he can manage to find a second worthy hero that is not looking for so much gold!. Finally our great leader Hunzo sends his best regards to your organizers and officials while awaiting your response AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. What do you say Oh great PupiDeath!? - Hunzo the Great. Issa NOW speaking: I would like to remind you guys that we have 1 diplomatic message to send in between turns as well as diplomatic messages in turn reports as you all may know. and also that what Hunzo has just done in this war is totally his planning and NOT mine! :), so please don't hate me for it and don't forget that he is so eager to do his best to get a good ranking! :) cheers all. _______________________________________________________________________________ The following message was sent on Tuesday October 14, 1997 at 03:56 PM EDT by Arturo Espinosa Aldama to all players; The Organizers accept to make peace with the Spectators. I am very pleased with your latest diplomatic reply. It was most ingenious of you to accept such a strong and solid alliance between our proud lands!. And now my honorable ally, I will tell you of good news that will help you overthrow your enemy and his rushing hero "doce pares!" then put his camp in total choas and disorder!: I would strongly advise you to take the opportunity IMMEDIATLY to kill his incomming foolish hero! and then take away his city London, PILLAGE its mighty production of Minotaurs then kill all of its men before you take away their women!. Then after you are done destroying them for one turn I strongly suggest my great ally, that you retreat your elemental back to Bob Heeter's bar (ruin). My friend!.. I notice that your two heroes are still struggling to make their journies shorter! may I suggest sending dwarves or bats along side with them, for you have enough useless light cavalry. which one of them should be sent to Helsinki and given the orders to pillage the city and LEAVE it without production. Instead, have your city St. louis build powerful spiders to stand ready for assault against athlete villages, and may I also suggest that you support them with experienced dwarves from just below them in the city of Antwerp. That is why your final gold account was missing another 73 gp. :)..I hope that was meaningful? To my NEEDED ally PupiDeath!: I'd unfortunately my friend have to assume that you are not a careful reader! :), because this is the second time you misunderstood a query from a player, but that is ok!. In my offered alliance to your proud kingdom I did not wish to make alliance with you solely on the fact that I wanted you to kill the athlete's new hero!, becuase I was actully confident that everybody saw it, but I just wanted my turn report to be full of role playing! :), and just in case you forgot about it!. But I wanted to make alliance with you to tell you about moving your heroes alittle faster by building giant bats or dwarves that will make their movement faster, so that they can get to their ruins faster!. the second thing was to tell you to build spiders in the closest city to the ruin where your elemental is presently, BUT, you left out another good advice!, your choice obviously, but I'm dissapointed! :), especially because Mikey-182 took full advantage of the advice and HE did what I adviced you and now UNFORTUNATLEY he is ready to hit BACK, and I STRONGLY suggest from now on that you pay very careful attention to your neighbor. You are my ally and I would benfit to see you do BETTER! :) I'll give you some pointers on my next turn report good ally! note: guys!, it would be more FUN to play this game with a little more role playing and keep it exciting! :). don't forget that a price for each player in the most entertaining game history is awarded:) so lets try to make our turn reports alittle more fun! :) another thing.. This message contains diplomatic contents about the game, so I'm making it as an archive message intead of a query. now don't forget guys that we only are allowed one of these messages (diplomtaic message) and another IN the turn reports, otherwise we get hit with rule errors!, and I would hate that! :). which means so far me and PupiDeath have used ours for this turn! (are you listining Pupi? :) ) --Hunzo. _______________________________________________________________________________ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Tournament Game: "A15" Turn Number: 3 Gamefile Sent To: Hunzo (Blue) (ioraha2@julian.uwo.ca) Date Sent: Sunday October 19, 1997 at 09:05 PM EDT Date Gamefile Due: Tuesday October 21, 1997 at 9:05 PM EDT (In GMT-0500: Tuesday October 21, 1997 at 8:05 PM) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- _______________________________________________________________________________ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Tournament Game: "A15" Turn Number: 3 Gamefile Sent To: Hunzo (Blue) (ioraha2@julian.uwo.ca) Date Sent: Monday October 20, 1997 at 05:31 AM EDT Date Gamefile Due: Wednesday October 22, 1997 at 05:31 AM EDT (In GMT-0500: Wednesday October 22, 1997 at 4:31 AM) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- _______________________________________________________________________________ The following message was sent on Monday October 20, 1997 at 06:17 AM EDT by James_G._Que@ccmail.bms.com (James G. With their leader Hunzo leading the armies, his brilliance sure was a threat to the Reporter's kingdom. The other neighbor, the Organizer, have been getting vital information from Hunzo, which have made good progress on the frontlines. The war council meeting is still in progress as of this moment, they will assess the situation and handle down the orders later... In the meantime, reporters' armies have continue their order of expanding the border. The armies have captured cities. Hero Jeff Wyatt have been working very hard, capturing Squaw Valley (city) and visiting ruin, Zak's Zone which have rewarded him the Chariot of Fire! On the other hand, Sir Frederick have been seen riding on his newly acquired dragon on a sightseeing tour! What a lazy hero! or maybe he needs some rest... Red baron have ordered a report on his job. I've pasted it in here so that the text ends up in the diplomatic history archive where it belongs. -- Bob Date: Mon, 20 Oct 1997 06:28:58 -0400 To: "Bob Heeter and Pat Lang" From: The Warlords II Remailer Subject: "A15": Query Message from James_G._Que@ccmail.bms.com (James G. The truth to this is that the Organizer (player 1-white) and us, the reporter (green) are not allies. It is the Organizer and the Spectator (player4-blue) that are allies. But you just don't learn, do you ? > "Mikey-182!".. I read the pasted turn report you have sent below! and > I've spotted an ERROR in it *immediatly*!. which I'll be MORE than glad to > point it out to the rest! ...Sooky sooky la-la !! :). In case you can't tell, *I'm* not the one going crying to anyone, it might perchance be you. But for the record, YES, I STUFFED UP. I missed reporting that my hero had also visited a ruin (and gained the services of a Dragon). Obviously a rules error, however an honest mistake. I accept full responsibility of course and will make every effort for it to not happen again. I also apologise if anyone feels they were at a disadvantage from my error. Except you of course Hunzo, as you obviously have such wonderful perception and wisdom that nothing could get by you. > Now I ask the moderator that THIS must be a rules error!. because if > someone is trying to follow up the game to make sure that everything is > done right, then this only makes it inconvenient and confusing, therefore > TIME consuming!, Once again, I apologise for my mistake - get over it and stop gloating like an idiot. > not to mention "rules are rules". As I have mentioned before, rules ARE NOT everything. I never did accuse you of having a closed mind, even though you did refute it (which confused me greatly, by the way). Now I'm not so sure I shouldn't have. Playing within the SPIRIT of the game is *far* more important than only playing within the rules. > A note to the previousely out of order "Mikey-182": > > You know what?..I don't really like to jump on "pity" rule errors!. what > happened previously with Red Baron was of the most serious rules' errors > (the diplomatic ones!), that is why I wanted to point it out! BUT, it > turned out that it wasn't really one as explained by the moderator, so I didn't do it to be annoying!. What was so serious about it ? The 2 diplomatic messages per turn rule is there to stop it getting out of hand (as per the game we were referred to read) and unintentionally has the effect of stopping you from saying anything that may come up after you've used your quota. I hate to think what else you would consider a "serious rules error".... > In this case however!, I'm very willing to be on you every move because of > your previously very ignorant and judgemental archive message Ignorant ? Your subsequent messages have done NOTHING to show me that you are not what I said you to be. I do apologise for the judgement part however, but since we are all playing this game together, I was insulted that you would try to push people around by being a "rules bully". Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean you can't be strong and just let it go without trying to call everything a rules error. >(which > really didn't have any diplomatic content and don't understand why it was > an archive!) There had been no official verification of what was considered a "diplomatic" message, so to ease your obvious pain I relenquished my right to another message for the turn. > therefore, even if this isn't a big hit to you and I don't > intend it to be as such!, I want to make sure that you not only play for > FUN as is EVRYBODY doing, but also to play BY the RULES!. Yeah, whatever, mistakes happen. I'll promise to play by the rules if you promise to play by the spirit.... Rules in this game and in life are merely a guideline to the way society or a particular subset thereof wants it's members to behave. The rules, much like the members that make them are not static, they evolve to suit changing needs. The rules are not nearly as important as the meanings behind them. I think anything further should be taken to email (oh, but I'll let you have the last public word if you want) - unless of course the other players find this amusing :) ObDiplomaticContent: (as if the above wasn't enough :) Player3 (finally worked out who you are :), the offer of alliance was aimed at you. You obviously don't need my help at the moment (even if you would wish to receive it), but in return for an acceptance of peace, I offer you Zero hostility and possibly other bonuses if you help me out in the future. Remember >that every mind is a different world. Hence, I will not follow your >advice completely, even if it is a good one. OK!. I GOT one SMART move for you!. I just hope that you will be willing to do it, and I am SURE that it is very beneficial to you. I won't give you any obvious moves! just like you asked, but don't forget about this smart one you also asked for: You can kill that slimy green elemental standing in your territory close to Melbourne!. and I SERIOUSLY advise you to do so for the following 5 good reasons: 1) You won't have to defend your undefended cities in the back, which the elemental is waiting for a chance to attack them and either pillage them or raze them just like he did on his last turn to your (former) city Helsinki!. 2) Once you kill the elemental, then the city of Melbourne will be yours right on turn 6! 3) You will be ready to move your hero (Nopi-boy) and your ghosts down the road to implement "Death!" and revenge on any green cities on your way! without worrying about any elemental standing by waiting for a chance to attack your undefended cities! 4) After killing the green elemental, your elemental now will do what the green one was doing to you, except that now it'll be YOUR turn to do it! It can stand there close by to threaten to attack the WEALTHY city of Moscow, causing the green hero to do (5).. 5) The green Hero that is heading for the temple will have NO chance to stop you!, because he'll be busy and stuck between your armies and mine! I hope my ally that this will convince you!, because this will CERTAINLY shift the power and intiative towards us!. One seemingly simple move!, YET one with tremendous long term benifits!. One more thing my good ally. Do NOT be tempted to take Melbourne instead of killing the green elemental!. Because that city will be yours anyways on turn 6!. IN CASE you haven't seen the move that I'm telling you about to kill the green elemental (which I'm sure that you have seen!). I'll just tell it to you, based on its EXTREME importance for BOTH our sides certainly: bring the light cavelry that is in the open towards the hills around Melbourne then, bring your elemental that is in the strong hold and unite him with the light cavelry so that the light caverly can cross the hills with 2 movement points and make it across the hills with just enough movement left in it to kill that vile green elemental!. This hint is your key to sure and easy victories to come soon for your proud Nopi-boy and his scary ghosts! Now this is NOT all!, I still have more for you my good ally!. I will help you further more as you will learn soon!. To the honorable Mikey-182!: You have shown great respect to our proud leader Hunzo! and we are most gratified with your gesture!. Hence, we have decided to extend to thee an open hand of peace and friendship! We have decided not to make any confrontation with your brave athletes. It was pointed out to us that the city Rome which you have your eyes set on should be razed so that you NEVER get a chance to have anything out of it, or PILLAGED so that we gain 175 valuable gold pieces and you don't!. But quickly those advisors were released of their duties and lowered in rank for their poor tactical foresight!. We have decided to make friends and allies with your athletes! We will take your previous offer of friendship and alliance!. But we ask of you kindly great king that you call a cease fire with our ally the PupiDeath for the comming turn atleast!. We on the other hand will present no hostility to your side and not attack nor pillage any thing in your way, also we will not send our proud and powerful hero Samurai towards your ruins! that way your hero will have plenty of time to search them and bring you back lots of gold!. You could gain ALOT from this offer!, I do not wish to fight your armies and I'm sure that you also would rather not fight against mine! We could both do so much with our strength!, so what do you say we save ourselves the trouble and take our share of spoils instead ???.. I will keep my powerful allies and armies away from your cities if you keep yours away from mine too. What do you say?.. You can be one of three things.. 1) Neutral, and stand ALONE! 2) My enemy, and fight each other until you gain nothing! or.. 3) Be my friend!, and gain SO MUCH later on! .. let me know! Back to my good ally the PupiDeath: I give you a smart move! via a letter to Mikey-182. He is a wise king! and he will accept my generous offer and will not attack you for your comming turn which will allow you to regroup your armies and prepare your heroes for their targets on your comming turn. I hope that this will please your fearfulness. PupiDeath: Finally victory will be ours!, lets devour those useless Reporters! although, I feel for your loss of another city! :(. Give those 2 dwarves some 'Death' on their turf!. Good luck good ally!. Mikey-182: I see that you didn't agree fully to my peace offering!. I'll just say this: If you're thinking of turning direction and head towards me, then I want you to take a good look at my armies, they're not that far away from our border! so it would be a nasty war! :). You may choose to listen to some LOSING warlord and decide to attack me, BUT It won't benifit you as much as picking your gold and re-building!, not to mension, it isn't wise to attack the strongest side especially when you got no help from anyone!. Like I told you before - an alliance with me would not only benefit me!, but it would benefit you too!. I have put past conflicts behind me and won't look back again. All I'm saying is that I give you my word that I won't attack you and the rest is up to you. I also will have no plot even indirctly against you, because as you can see from the map after my turn, I am going after green SOLELY! therefore I have no plans to attack you as well!. Declare your alliance with me now and we will BOTH gain alot!. Red Baron!: You accuse my ally of being my puppet?!. Is it because he will soon take more cities from you than you razed from his?. You know that you're doomed soon, so you talk with big EMPTY words about "taking me down"!.. hah!! I think you need to look at the map a little closer and re-examine your state- ment! ESPECIALLY now after making my move! :) The way I see it very SOON (and the way it really is!), is that you're the weakest of the four! and being in such a position, you shouldn't talk to us like this. Maybe now you know the value of alliance and WHY it is ALLOWED to tell some moves, not that Pupi really didn't see those moves, but I said them just to make sure that he didn't forget about them!. Don't forget Pupi that you can send a diplomatic message in between your turn reports!, ESPECIALLY if you need to, and you find a move that you need to tell me about that would help you!. Infact!, there was a move that you should have sent me a diplomatic message to tell me about, a move which would help you alot, and only I could do it for you!. Don't let somebody's remarks about this alliance discourage you from sending any diplomatic messages that can help me and you!, like Red Baron's remarks calling you a puppet!. >I may not be the winner. I may even be the looser. But this is fun. (1) . (2) . (3) 3 statements, 2 correct and 1 false!.. can you guess which is the false one? Answer: (2) Its true that you are not the winner. You MAY be the loser presently, BUT, If you start playing alittle carefully starting from your turn 7, then I assure you that you are going to gain much and you will prosper in wealth!. Turn 7 is a GOOD turn for you my ally. You have lots of gold to be picked up and used to rebuild and make a powerful army!. And finally, about statement (3).. The fun is just starting to begin! :) (but remember to be careful!) Let me give you a few suggestions my ally, and of course you do not have to follow them if you wish. I can see that you can take two green cities right on your next turn. BUT, Be careful!, I can tell you that taking ONE of them would be the better move becuase one can be taken and KEPT!, while the other can be only taken for one turn, then green will retake it right on his next turn!, which means that he will most probably RAZE it!, since he made his intentions clear that he does not wish to do well, but simply to take people down with him!!. Anyways, Even if you wish to take that city, pillage it then escape your army away from danger, then, he would raze it still and you would lose the value of the city, because later on, that city will be yours anyways!. Never the less, you should take Barcelona, with your hero, ONE ghost and the comming dwarf!. That should be sufficiet defences to protect it from the 3 green wolfs and the spider! losing only a dwarf to them!, isn't that cool?! :). And I would guess that you'd keep the spider producion which will help alot in the fall of the remaining green cities! *guile grin* :]. I also think that you shouldn't tie up the other ghost with the hero too because putting it in the hero stack is almost useless since its bonus won't count because of the other ghost's bonus! instead use it to tie up the GREEN armies by making it fly over mountains and shore lines, BUT away from the green hero and archon! :). OH!..I ALMOST forgot!!...those 3 wolfriders close to Barcelona can reach Montreal and kill your archon there!. so you HAVE to increase the defences of Montreal to +2, that way those 3 wolferiders WON'T be able to kill your archon!. I would assume that you'll have enough gold for that on your next turn!..OH YEAH! :)..If you leave your ghost in Montreal with the archon, then the ghost dies!!, so don't put it in Montreal with the archon!. Don't worry my ally about the incomming green hero, archon and his wolfs! Infact!, make sure that your archon keeps him in check! (but not now!) I'll also assist in keeping the green hero under pressure!. Green should soon fall to our armies and take some good beating without much choice!! :) One more thing fearsome Pupi!.. I can see that green did a big favor for you by landing his two dwarves in the razed city!, right next to your two spiders!.. I think that you should thank him for that! :) ..then barbecue the 2 dwarves in the city fires! :). but the real thing I want to tell you, is that now since your inside cities are safe from any sneaking green Elementals and dwarves, that you should bring all your armies outwards to help you!, especially those strong spiders to help your hero stacks. I don't really see why you should keep any armies in your inside cities!, they're all safe now and you certainly need them more in the outside with your heroes and allies!, as you will see soon!. Of course the border cities should be defended well!. Just remember good ally not to be too anxious in attacking! SHOOT!, I hope I didn't annoy you with all this! :).. I hope it stays fun too!. Mikey182: New and good ally!..welcome!. As you can see I almost emptied out my cities that are on our borders, but since this is the tournament!, I'm still keeping my eyes on whatever options you may chose to take. Therefore, Let me remind you that even though my cities near you are weak now, that they won't stay like that for the remaining of the game! ;). Don't get me wrong. I do trust your word, but so far I have shown my part of the bargain by sparing a city for you (Rome), and its only fair to have some gesture from you of any sort that would give me a real assurance, than just mere promise that really doesn't (and shouldn't) hold IN the tournament!. So its really up to you to take advantage of our present alliance!. and I leave any suggestions that may benefit the both of us to you!. you can come up with ANY plan that would give us profit and glory! :) In the mean time I'll have to take care of green until I can really have my way with his helpless empire! :]. In a way, it makes it alittle harder for me, and in another, it doesn't! :) Anyways, As I remember, we have agreed to an alliance between our two proud sides. so now that things have changed dramatically I have the following very interesting offer!: I am still persisting to destroy all green armies and won't rest until I accomplish that! :). So.. I have the following GOOD plan for the BOTH of us!: 1) I have 15 cities. green has 9 cities. 15 + 9 = 24! 2) You have 10 cities. white has 8 cities. 10 + 8 = 18! That plan can be CERTAINLY accomplished and obviously that plan will give us a good ranking for this round!. You have a pewerful hero, the right allies that will help you cancel out any white bonuses, and you'll get more than enough gold to help you produce the strongest armies of your choice. So that is certainly do-able, especially when we still have so many turns to go!. Of course I'll give you my word (as I did before) that I'll stay completely out of your way!. And of course I'll need you to stay out of my way too! ;) But really!.. Red Baron is a decent warlord!, and he won't make it easy for me to overrun his kingdom with sheer force (not that he has a choice!), and this war between the Spectators and Reporters has been costly enough (for me that is!) that I don't want it to prevent me from accomplishing victory!. Nevertheless, My victory means OUR victory!. So now good ally! -- all I'm asking you to do is to.. Pick your awaiting vast treasures of gold, then pick easy white cities, and while your doing that!.. sit back!, relax!, and enjoy a good boxing match "down under!" :) (Hollyfield vs Tyson I) :) and enjoy the masterly of skilful samurai warriors! overbearing a big green army! :). Maybe its time I become an athlete and you become a spectator! :) Absolutely!, a specator is all I am asking you to be! :) (but you can keep your orange uniform on :) ) I know that Red Baron is too proud to ask for help from you or anyone (which makes it the more fun beating up on him! :) ), but if he does! then simply redirect his pleas of mercy to me! :), and I may give him some! :) (some more beating that is! :) ). Remember! -- "With alliances comes many benefits, and its only fair AND right to take full advantage of these benefits!." -An ancient wise samurai! :) What do you say my good ally? If we fight!, then by turn 20 you'll certainly have less than 18 cities! :). Greetings Mikey182: you've made a good diplomatic move by accepting my offer!. If you know now what to build, then you should be able to take every white city without much loss to your major army units!. But I would recommend that you rush towards the cities that are producing strong army units! ..Good luck my ally! Meanwhile, I will need one thing from you!.. I sent Ninja to search the gold ruin closest to his current position. The money will help me buy some useful armies to invade the green camp easier!. After that I will be sending him inside the white camp to get the demon that is there. I will need the demon especially for two reasons: 1) I had to sacrifice 3 strong allies in order to knock out green's hero and archon which were very annoying and threatening! 2) I will definitely need the demon to cancel out the minotaur bonuses that will be comming up soon. especially now!, since Red Baron have decided to cowardly sit in his cities and defend them in a shameful attempt! :) The green cities will sure be hard to take and keep with all these spiders, heavy infintry, minotaurs, and an annoying devil too :). therefore I will need the demon very much!. So I would appreciate your help in letting Ninja have a safe passage in the white camp to release that all important demon. I thank you in advance my ally! I have taken his turn, rerouting his troops to the nearest cities according to the rules. If Mikey does not return by his next turn, he will join Pupi Death in a static defense (leaving more riches for the remaining two). Of course it is unfortunate that things may have to work out this way, but look on the bright side. Round B is not too far away. Below is a quick summarry of the Lost Player rules as a reminder. I'll send Mikey's turn report and game file along in a moment. Tournament Lost-Player Rules Bob Heeter, 10-Nov-97 Players may be Lost in one of two ways: 1.Player leaves the game after announcing their departure to the moderator. 2.Player runs out of timeouts and misses their turn. The rules for Lost Players have two phases: A.Preliminary Phase - skip player's turn (see below for details) B.Final Phase - remove player from the game (see below for details) If the player's departure is announced, then the Preliminary Phase is skipped. But if the player runs out of timeouts, the Preliminary Phase gives the player a little extra time to return to the game. The Preliminary Phase is implemented when the last timeout runs out, and the Final Phase is implemented at the start of the Lost Player's next turn (if they don't show up in the meantime). In a sense, the implementation of the Preliminary Phase is equivalent to a declaration by the player that he/she is leaving the game: both set the stage for the Final Phase to be implemented if the player does not declare otherwise before his/her next move. The Preliminary Phase: This Phase only applies if the player has not announced their withdrawal from the game, and if the player is not known to be on vacation. The moderator does four things: 1.Take the missing player's turn, routing all units to the nearest city (in terms of movement points). If two cities are equally close, the moderator chooses the "best" city for the player's defense. Do not move units within cities. Do not group or ungroup stacks. 2.Send an announcement to all players that the missing player will be considered Lost if they do not reply by their next turn. The announcement should include the text of the Lost Player rules so the other players will understand what is about to happen. 3.End the missing player's turn and send it to the next player via Remailer. 4.Notify Headquarters that a player has gone missing. The Final Phase: This Phase applies once it is definitely clear that the player is not going to continue playing. This is true either because the player has said so, or because they missed a turn, ran out of timeouts, had their turn skipped via the Preliminary Phase, and did not reply to the warning message before their next turn came up for play. The Moderator does the following: 1.Notify Headquarters that the player is Lost and out of the tournament. 2.The Lost Player's final game standings will indicate the last turn and side when the player was thought to be in the game (generally the turn and side right before the first turn that they failed to take). The stats will also record zero cities, armies, gold, and profits. 3.The moderator will follow this "decision tree": (Each option is explained further down.) a.If more than one-third the remaining cities were still neutral at the end of side 4's last move, go with an Active Sub to replace the Lost Player. b.If less than one-third the remaining cities were still neutral at the end of side 4's last move, then go with a Static Defense. Thus, the preference is to use an Active Sub if it's early in the game and a new player would want to join, yet wouldn't make a big change in the game strategy of the other players. If it's not early in the game, then doing anything will be a big disruption to the game, and the preference is to go with a Static Defense since that will keep things from changing too quickly, while not requiring a lot of tedious human intervention. After implementing the Active Sub or Static Defense, the game will continue. Games with an Active Sub are played normally. In the case of the Static Defense, here is what happens: After the moderator has set up the Static Defense, the game file will continue to be sent normally. When it reaches the Lost Player, simply skip him/her and send it to whoever used to come after the Lost Player. The person after the Lost Player will do the following each turn: a.Open the game file b.Start the Lost Player's turn c.Do a "move all" command to move any units which have not arrived in a city. Units which arrive at a city that is no longer owned by the Lost Player, or whose movement paths are blocked by enemy units, should be be left in place. If the stack will be stronger with a +1 defense in city terrain, then it should be towered. [ Ideally we'd try to get all units moved into cities somehow, but in practice we need rules which can be implemented quickly, simply, and without any ambiguous choices by the players which might be used to advantage. ] d.Send out an email message summarizing any non-routine events (such as units that failed to reach cities) in this turn. e.End the Lost Player's turn. f.Take his/her own turn normally. Finally, it is forbidden for players to take items from a hero who is in Static Defense. The purpose of the Static Defense is to keep as much of the Lost Player's stuff out of the hands of his/her neighbors for as long as possible, and to come as close as possible to the sort of defense one might have with an actual human sub. The bottom line is that no human player would intentionally let his hero be killed and give up his hero's items, and most good human players would find ways to keep their items out of enemy hands, so a Static Defense's items should also stay out of enemy hands. (Idea from Bill Irwin.) ] [ Note: Once a Static Defense runs out of gold, it permanently stops building new units, even if it later loses enough units that it could start building again. The main idea is for the moderator to intervene only on one or two turns, and then set up a reasonably strong defense which can run automatically thereafter.] Pat Lang _______________________________________________________________________________
