Let me give u an example: Lets say that after recieving your turn in the mail, you noticed that my = armies were threatening your borders in some way. Then, in response to = this threat, you decided to offer me an alliance before you took your = turn. If there were no limit, you and i could possible work out in = detail an alliance before you took your turn. This would then allow u = to be much more aggressive since you knew i would no longer attack u. Meanwhile, somebody else, who might not have the time engage in such a = detailed negotiation, for reasons like u have mentioned such as work and = school, would not be able to that in the same situation. Instead, they = would have to be much more defensive and it would be much more difficult = for them to gain the same attacking advantage as you had. By limiting = diplomacy, it puts all people on the same level, whether they check = their mail every other hour or every other day... But regardless of that, i must admit that the moderators have sent = SEVERAL messages explaining this message limit, and that it seems = impossible that you hadnt heard about it. (unless of course u just = ignore some of the tournament headquarters messages which i admit can be = very tempting considering how long they tend to get :) But you should = definitely have heard about it by now, after at least 15 turns of = experience. I was completely unaware that flying items gave the = flying ability to all units in a stack, not solely the hero. (In the = practice round I never encountered it in only the 10 turns played). If = I had known, I certainly would have attacked Blue before he was able to = assemble an elite stack which will be extremely difficult to handle. I = encourage you not to allow Orange to do the same to you, although it may = cost you a large number of units, I would recommend that you explore = the possibility of attacking him before he is able to secure the flying = item with his hero and put you in the same position as me. It would be = most unfortunate if you were to be unable to attack his stack in the = future as I might be which will allow it to roam freely through my = territory. Just words of advice for you to consider. Also, if it does not give our opponents a strategic advantage, it would = be most appreciated if you would leave the WarBOT temple unattended once = you have blessed your armies allowing me to utilize its blessings. Isildur _______________________________________________________________________________ The following message was sent on Monday March 02, 1998 at 09:55 PM EST by Nicholas Hawkins to all players; Be it known to all that the Organizers have triumphed in the Olympic Wars! After the deaths of hundreds of armies and the razing of 12 cities, Isildur can finally be crowned the victor in the bloody battles of Round A. A story of the war follows: A long 20 turns ago, there were 4 combatants in this war. One was the leader of the Orange Athletes, who proved to be too weak for the demands of the battles and dropped out of the running. Another was the leader of the Green Media, who was Isildur's ally and a valiant warlord. Alas, he could not cope with the amount of time needed to fight well and he abandoned the cause as well. This left only the Organizers and Spectators, who fought bitterly for the remainder of the contest, each vying for control of the lost warlords' cities and slaying each other's armies by the dozen. Despite having only one Heroine and being outnumbered, Isildur held the crucial center of the map until the end was near and he was overmatched on that front. Meanwhile, his Heroine captured the hastily acquired and poorly defended Blue cities where the Media had once made their home. On yet a third part of the map, Isildur's forces proved too many and too strong for the last-minute assault by the Spectators in the northeast. Thus the Organizers secured victory by holding more cities and producing more armies, as well as strategic distribution of Allies to fend off the Blue Heroes. Isildur cannot help but wonder after this closely contested war whether or not he would have come out victor had there been only two Warlords during the whole of the game.
