276 valid registrations were received! (Last late entry was July 31,1997)

140 of the 276 players survived to start Round A!

Here's what happened to the rest:

45 made no effort to complete the play-by-email certification check.
37 chose to withdraw before the Practice Round.
22 were signed up for the Practice Round, but never made a move.
10 chose to withdraw during the Practice Round.
12 became Lost Players and vanished during the Practice Round.
10 chose to finish the Practice Round, but not start Round A.

53 of the 140 active players (over 1/3!) volunteered to play additional Round A games if needed.

Apparently the biggest loss of players during the Practice Round was PC-Deluxe players who decided to play Warlords III instead. Meanwhile, the Mac-Deluxe and PC-Classic players have been very loyal to the tournament, with very few dropping out!

Countries:

We still have players from 19 countries on 5 continents! (not Africa or Antarctica) Not surprisingly, the players from countries whose native language is not English have dropped out a bit more frequently. At the start of the Practice Round almost exactly 1/3 (33.0%) of the players came from non-English-speaking countries, but here at the start of Round A the fraction has dropped to 26.4%, which is more like 1/4. But this is still very much a worldwide Warlords tournament!
