                The Battles of Middle Earth

                        by Jan Kohl

This is the second of my series written for Warlords II. My first was Wales..
1275, and if you missed that one..let me know and I'll send you one. For those
of you who have really enjoyed J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings", this
should really hit the spot. I went into Tolkien's map and basically applied
it to the Warlords scenario module, (which was the easy part). Then I had to
attempt to make cities, ruins, ect. The real map doesn't even begin to have
enough cities on it to make a worthwhile map, so I had to improvise and place
quite a few that I thought might be there. I tried to make it as close
"realistically" to Tolkien's Middle Earth, so I used alot of names from
the index of the Silmarillion to "flower" it out. So if you have a problem
with a few place names..this was the reason why.

Since in Middle Earth you will not find the Men of Gondor fighting the Dwarves,
for instance, you may want to play a game where you pit the Men of Gondor,
Dwarves, Elves, and Men of Rohan against Saruman, Orcs, and Mordor...leave the
Wizards out of it..they are not an "army" so to speak anyway...or to make it
more challenging call the "Wizards" "Spies" and play like they are Mordor's
westward reaching arm. After all, they did have many spies in the West, even
before Frodo set off on his journey...

I changed some of the armies to fit in with Middle Earth a bit more, and I
hope you enjoy them. Any comments, questions? Email me at jkohl@fwb.gulf.net
