Ogre--The Warlords II Scenario By: Paul and Gregory Weimer Introduction: One of the most beloved board games in the SF genre is the Steve Jackson game Ogre. The game posited a future where immense robot tanks did battle with smaller, human manned tanks and hovercraft. It was also, briefly, a computer game. Both of them were favorites of ours, and so upon the advent of the scenario builder for Warlords II, we decided to give it a go. The results are before you. Technical: The szp file name is Ogre1. It features the map from the Europa scenario, slightly adjusted. The unit types and their features, are: Scouts: Basic scouting unit. Fairly useless except as boat fodder Fighters(Light and Heavy): Flying units. Ogre doesn't have these--but flying units are basic to Warlords. Infantry(Light, Heavy, Powered): Receive city bonuses. Slow, however GEV: (Light, Med, Heavy): The most exciting units in the game beside Ogres! Fast as all hell. The larger ones have an open bonus Tanks (Light, Med, Heavy): Tanks receive the "fortified" bonus. Don't underestimate their value versus the faster GEV's! Missile Tanks (Light, Med Heavy): Provide a minus to enemy stack bonus. I never start a war against another player without at least a city or two churning them out! Lazer Tanks(Light, Heavy): Tanks with a bonus in the open. Howitzers(Light, Heavy): Siege units. Commandos: The Wizards of the set. Defense Satellite: Faster than Commandos, can fly and have a group bonus. They are nice, although only obtainable via quest or ruin. Ogres: Our stars! Come in three varieties(based on strength) They cannot fly, but otherwise are much like dragons. A good stack isn't complete without one! Notes: We like the set for random, hidden maps, too. Try it. Beware, however. This set is FAST. I'll say that again. THIS SET IS FAST. Stacks zip across the map. If you like slow, tactical sets, Ogre probably isn't your cup of tea. (This means you, Mr. Pellett (VBG) ). Thanks to Steve Jackson Games for creating their wonderful game Ogre, although there is no official connection. Thanks to SSG for providing a great wargame to tinker with. So long as credit is given, we allow the free distribution of what we feel is one of the better scenarios available. Happy gaming!
